Johnny Knox Garden Design is an award winning garden design practice.  Since formation in 2008, we have developed a strong reputation for unique, creative and practical garden design solutions. Johnny’s fresh unique style has proved popular with discerning clients across a broad range of landscape settings and styles.

We specialize in private residential and occasional commercial work. We believe in a personal approach from initial brief to project completion, we strive to make the most your green space whether large or small.

We are also proud to work with some of Northern Irelands leading architects and homebuilders. Our designs work on the premise that with great buildings should come great gardens.

At Johnny Knox Garden Design, our primary passion and focus is getting the right style of garden design to compliment the landscape context.  And when relevant create the tension point between the architectural stance of a building and its surroundings.

Concept

Meet the Designer

Johnny is the principal designer at Johnny Knox Garden Design.

“I started “gardening” (loosely applied) at a very young age, more often than not covered in mud, climbing and exploring, happier outdoors than indoors.

A few years older, I recall visits to my papa’s garden. Here I marveled at precision circular lawns surrounded by delicate roses; a wonderful tall green hedge with an arch cut into it, behind lay a quirky vegetable patch, fork firm beside rows of potato plants, paths a plenty to explore and old lane ways to wander.

Paired with this as my inspiration and a desire to garden, I found free reign to practice on my parents plot. They generously absorbed both my triumphs and my experimental mistakes. I hoped one day to be able to make a garden of my own.

Completing my studies at Greenmount College galvanized my desire to make great gardens. Studying about other garden designers and architects inspired me greatly, people like Roberto Burle Marx, Capability Brown, Gertrude Jekyll and Frank Lloyd Wright to name but a few.”

Since starting the business in 2008 Johnny has developed a strong reputation for unique, creative and practical garden design solutions.

Johnny’s fresh unique style has proved popular with discerning clients and has lead to securing referrals from some of Northern Irelands leading Architects and home Builders. He also won a prestigious Gold Medal and best in show at Garden Show Ireland, Hillsborough, 2012.
